Our Anzac program was a very special one this year commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the landing at Gallipoli. It has been an engaging learning journey for the students who were so interested in finding out about their own family member who served during World War 1 and 2. The students conducted research about their family member who served in the war. The students, staff and parents worked very hard to create a peoplescape in our playground, which was a fitting tribute and memorial to all of our families and the children were extremely proud of their research.
The staff were very proud of the respect that children showed in honouring the men and women who sacrificed their lives for Australia. Last week we saw so many examples of this spirit at Cawdor. Seeing the way students, staff and parents worked together to create the peoplescape, to make the poppies and wreaths, to cook ANZAC biscuits, complete research and finalise the program for the service reassured us that the ANZAC spirit of determination, courage and mateship lives on in the lives of the Cawdor community. We were also privileged to have two WW2 veterans with us during our service.
This learning journey has helped the children to have an understanding of the ANZAC legend and has inspired in them a sense of pride to be Australia.
